Printmakers Council: TIME

The Printmakers Council invites you to find the time to join them in exploring the concept of Time in both traditional and innovative forms printmaking. Determined historically by the rising and the setting of the sun, our modern lifestyles push against the natural rhythms of rest and labour and our now 24-hour economy urges consumer purchasing of smart watches.  It’s not just telling the time but scheduling what to do with it.  Meanwhile astrophysical research challenges our understanding of time itself.  The Printmakers explore our complex relationship with time, a fascinating and engrossing subject for us all.

All work is for sale.

Events:

15 minute talks Sunday 9th February 2-3pm.

Create a print in a 10 minutes.  Workshop on Sunday 16th February 2-4pm.

NOT GREEN @ LUX
Feb 13 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Ghost Gum Tree by Richard Layzell.

How do we experience the concept of public land when we can hardly see it?
What happens to a place of leisure when the users are gone?

This is a rare chance to experience Waterlow Park after dark and when the gates are locked, dog- and people-free. Numbers strictly limited.

LUX’s Creative Ecologist Richard Layzell will lead a small group on a guided walk through the park, describing a series of local and global ecological and anecdotal experiences. Expect live demonstrations, shared knowledge, intermissions and surprises. Amongst other things, Layzell will introduce his collaborator, Kino Paxton, the sound of Mardalsfossen (one of Norway’s largest waterfalls), the marshy ground at the foot of the hill, the horrors of grass, Levelling as a guerrilla activity, ash ‘growback’ and the legacy of Andrew Marvell.

The 30min night walk concludes with hot soup in the Conservatory of the LUX. Please wear warm clothes and be prepared for rain, hail or snow. Richard would like to acknowledge the Aboriginal tour guides of Sydney, Alice Springs and Melbourne Botanical Gardens as an inspiration for this work.
