The class is suitable for beginners and is friendly and inclusive. Style is Hatha yoga with various influences – gentle, but still delivering strength and flexibility.   Come and try a class to enhance your sense of wellbeing, release stress and tension and to experience deep relaxation. Mats provided, free parking (for now, but check signs!) no need to book – just turn up. The class is in the beautiful church – it’s set back a bit and has big blue doors. After a successful summer term at Highgate Library we are continuing running weekly after school yoga classes for children (4-9 yrs) at Jacksons Lane in the Autumn Term. There will be max. 15 places and 14 sessions, starting Tuesday 3rd September.
Classes consist of a gentle warm up, breathing exercises, a series of sun salutations and story based yoga poses and flow, including partner / group poses, yoga / mindfulness games (or arts & crafts) plus relaxation. Our children’s art classes run on a termly basis, providing children aged 5-11 with an introduction to the basics of drawing and painting. Each week children will build on their skills learnt in previous weeks, developing their confidence and ability, with the help of our supportive and friendly teachers.

An exhibition about a Surrealist journey and its discoveries.

‘Inside Patrick Hourihan’s skull there nestles a mental coral reef alive with magical images of unknown dramas and unfamiliar conflicts.  His private world is as intense, as complicated and as visually captivating as anything the ocean reefs have to offer.  His technical wizardry allows him to explore this world of the unconscious and permits us to eavesdrop on its many perverse and contradictory scenes.  His work has the special merit of being instantly recognisable as his. No other artist comes close to his imagery.  An intrepid internal explorer, he is quite splendidly alone in his voyages of irrational beauty.’     Desmond Morris, April 2019.

This selection of paintings, drawings and boxed found objects represents the work of London-based Surrealist Patrick Hourihan.  He has used automatic drawing and other channels of accidental discovery as a way to unlock the poetic potential and sense of the Marvellous that awaits in seemingly mundane and unexpected situations of everyday life.  The spirit of the Shadowman exhibition seduces the viewer to look through newly opened windows with the dreamer’s innocent eye.

Patrick Hourihan is London born.  He studied at the Watford School of Art.  He has been creating imaginative worlds since childhood, leading to a love of Surrealism while at college.  He was, for a number of years, an active member of the Surrealist London Action Group (SLAG).

Mrs. H and the Sing-along Band return to Lauderdale House with their unique family music. Their aim is to provide quality music for children, that adults will love too. Bringing together elements of Folk, Soul, Afro, Latin, Dub, comedy and theatre this unique band present the ‘sing-along’ with a new lease of life for all the family to join in with.

Headed up by Mrs H on lead vocals and guitar, the all star band includes members of Red snapper, Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo, Beth Orton’s band and The Leisure Society, on an array of instruments including guitars, banjos, double bass, accordion and trumpet. Bring your voices, silly dances, a sprinkling of mischief and don’t hold back from joining in the fun!

An experiential workshop for learning and healing. We will use tools from the tradition of Five Element Taoist medicine. This ancient wisdom, with its practical solutions, is as appropriate today, if not more so, than it was 4,000 years ago.

Every second Saturday of the month we host our popular Saturdays at Six concert series. Programmes range from organ recitals to chamber groups to soloists and choirs. Concerts run from 6-7pm and there is a retiring collection.

Coolhurst Speaker Evening with Penny Chalmers.

As well as chairing the Coolhurst GMC, Penny Chalmers has had two parallel careers:
consultant in Social Services, and professional opera singer.

In October 1996 Penny learned the leading lady had
gone ill after the second act of a Covent Garden opera,
and the understudy was abroad.
There was one chance to avert disaster.
She had minutes to decide if she would accept
their request to go on as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre,
one of the most demanding roles in the repertoire,
but one she had not prepared.
This world class production featured a cast of opera stars.
It was conducted by one of the all-time greats,
Sir Bernard Haintink, and it was being broadcast live.

Lauderdale House’s resident pianist Stephen Hose performs a free concert on the third Tuesday of each month.

Take a break from a busy day of work and join us in the beautiful and bright Long Gallery overlooking the gardens of Waterlow park. Stephen will perform a 45 minute repertoire of lovely classical music. A delightful, relaxing way to spend your lunchtime!

Each lunchtime concert runs from 1.15pm to 2pm, and is free and open to all. There is no ticket required – simply turn up and take a seat. Doors will open at 1pm.
