Swish and Style @ Jacksons Lane
Mar 26 @ 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Tired of your t-shirts? Wish you had some different dresses? Save money by bringing along your unwanted (but wearable) clothes to our Swish and Style event and go home with a new-to-you outfit, all for free!

It’s simple. Have a clear out and bring good quality clothes to one of our seven events. For each item you bring, you get a token that you can exchange for another garment (maximum 10 items). Everything is free, everything is clean and everything will be re-worn and re-loved.

How it works

For the first hour (12.30 – 1.30), everyone is invited to drop off their clothes, shoes and accessories that they want to donate. Whilst we busily sort them into style and hang them on hangers, you’ll be free to check out the workshops – learning how to do simple fixes to your clothes and how to upcycle them into something completely different – a jumper becomes a hot water bottle cover, a treasured Babygro becomes a patchwork memory blanket and an old t-shirt becomes a bag. If you have any clothes that need a little TLC, bring them along and our seamstress can fix them for you for free while you wait.

The from 2pm until 3pm, you get to look through all the clothes and choose what you want. If you love it, take it. It’s first come, first served – but no elbows please!

What can you bring?

Please bring along:

  • Clean and wearable clothes, shoes and accessories
  • No damage, holes and stains
  • You can bring women’s, men’s, children’s and baby clothes
  • No underwear please, unless in sealed, unworn condition

Anything that we deem unacceptable will be given back to you and you will not be given a token. We have the right to turn away any item.

Please note only adults will be allowed at events. Parents with children under the age of 12 can bring them but they must remain under the parents’ supervision at all times.

Any clothes that are left over at the end of the event will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Private view & Artist talks: Ripple Effect @ Thrown

You are warmly invited to the private view of ‘Ripple Effect’, an exhibition exploring freedom and control.

The show brings together artists who allow intuition and chance to guide their processes, including: Great Pottery Throw Down winner Ryan Barrett’s 3D printed ceramic forms, the meditative ceramic sculptures of Matt Sherratt, award-winning ceramicist Jo Davies’ fluid bowls and vases and Beverly Isaac’s spontaneous, action-painting still lifes.

All four of the artists will be joining us for the evening with each giving a short introductory talk about their work at 7.30pm.

All welcome!

Clay Critters Workshop @ OmVed Gardens

Clay Critters Workshop @ OmVed Gardens

Join local artist, Jo Pearl, ceramic sculptor and animation filmmaker, for a playful workshop that breathes clay into life while exploring OmVed Gardens’ flora and micro fauna.

Inspired by her body of work ‘Unearthed’ on view at the Alchemy exhibition, ceramic artist and animation filmmaker Jo Pearl will host a playful workshop inviting participants to sculpt the fascinating microbes and mini critters that live beneath healthy soil and bring them to life using simple stop motion.

This workshop is suitable for any age from 8 to 108. Participants must have a smart phone with the iMotion app (free to download) and be able to use it unsupervised. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Breathing life into clay and clay into life – has become my definition of animation. I have become fascinated with the soil that is at the root of the ceramic discipline, enchanted by the truly overwhelming richness of life beneath our feet. I celebrate that abundance here with ‘Unearthed’, a project that zooms us down and focuses in on the choreography of ever-more tiny beings that inhabit the soil, a largely unknown place that holds one of the keys to life on earth.” – Jo Pearl
