The orchestra of I Maestri ends its 15th season with a programme of Mozart and Beethoven; music written before and after the French Revolution.
Conductor and mentor John Landor of LMA Orchestra collaborates for the third time with I Maestri with his students for a Masterclass workshop and evening performance on Sunday 19th June 2016.
We will be joined by soloists; Chiawen Kiew – Flute and Tomos Xerri – Harp who will perform Mozart’s sublime Flute and Harp Concerto.
I Maestri is a unique organisation that helps talented young conductors and soloists explore their skills and learning with an orchestra through a programme of workshops, masterclasses and public performances.

Music that reflects nature’s seasonal change from Summer to Autumn; nature turns from being fruitful and full of vitality to a more calm pace and state of resting. Soon it will be harvest and a time to enjoy nature’s bounty.
A return to nature is the theme for this evenings programme as the music carries a pastoral mood, sounds of the romantic idealisms of rustic beauty, with Gypsy Airs and Idyll’s of a time once before.

Starting and finshing at Golders Green, this is a country walk inside London. It is suitable for existing, new and prospective members. Despite being well within London it is over 85% on tracks and paths , passes through several ancient woodlands and visits many bodies of water. It even goes along a disused railway line.
It is a good opportunity for prospective members or those just thinking about joining to meet existing members and find out more about the Central London Outdoors Group

I will lead you past West Heath, Parliament Hill (with one of the very best views of the City) and Highgate Ponds. Ascending Highgate Hill, we will continue to Highgate Wood where I intend stopping for lunch (you can buy a meal or a drink or bring your own picnic to eat on the adjoining lawn) After going through Queens Wood we pass Highgate underground station (it is possible to leave the walk here),The Parkland Walk path is a ribbon of green woods high above the houses on disused railway line. Crossing high above the Archway we walk through Waterlow Park to Highgate Village then descend to Hampstead Heath passing Kenwood House Ken Wood itself and the strange oaks of Sandy Heath and the North End. Finally we walk down the Heath Extension before turning off to return to the start at Golders Green

Max Wall, who is buried in Highgate Cemetery East, is one of the great British comedians of the 20th century, as anyone who saw his character Professor Wallofski will attest. Born Maxwell George Lorimer in Brixton, he made his stage debut as Jack in Mother Goose, going on to appear in many musicals and stage comedies in the 1930s. His distinctive facial expressions and mournful voice led to many parts in films after the war including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He played serious parts, too: Vladimir in Beckett’s Waiting for Godot being perhaps the best known.
Max’s close friend Michael Pointon, who is writing a personal memoir about him, will regale the audience with anecdotes and insights. Max was a friend of another star buried at Highgate, Leslie ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, and Michael will tell us about that friendship and play music Max and Hutch recorded together. The talk will be illustrated with film clips and excerpts from Max’s performances.

I Maestri’s May Concert introduce a UK premiere of Riccardo Romano’s, ‘The Passion’ which is based on Bach’s St Matthew Passion. Nino Rota is a composer of many well-known film scores including The Godfather and we shall present one of his orchestral works which is based on a song about love. To end our programme, we present Dvorak’s ‘New World’ Symphony with the beautiful Cor Anglais solo in the slow movement.

In a chair, in a shop window sits ‘Mr Aloysius B. Bear, Retired’. Known to all and sundry as, Mr. Bear. He had once belonged to a little girl and when she grew up she had given him to the shop as she thought he would very much like the hussle and bussle of shop life and in that she was not mistaken. Mr Bear loved sitting in his chair in the window of the shop. He could wish for nothing more except for one thing – he wished it would snow for Christmas . Chickenshed comes to Lauderdale House with their hugely popular show Tales from the Shed.
This interactive performance is full of colourful puppets, live songs and enchanting stories. Every show is fun, extremely engaging an includes plenty of music and magic. Children are encouraged to use their imaginations, make lots of noise and be part of the story. Performers and audience share the same space with some of Chickenshed’s much loved characters – from Can-Can the beautiful bird to laid back Lion Down and The Thing That Goes Blurgh! Tales from the Shed is perfect for young children and fun for the whole family.

The Highgate International Chamber Music Festival brings together distinguished chamber musicians from around the world for a celebration of chamber music in venues around Highgate. Singer and songwriter Nick Cope joins us for the first children’s show of the year on 12 January.
Nick Cope’s family performances are legendary! For the last 9 years Nick has been writing, performing and recording music for children and their families and has established a fanatical army of little people and their parents from all over the world. With songs about head lice, dogs eating soap and dragons called Keith, “even the shyest of kids will warm to his unpretentious style.” (Fest Magazine)

From the comfort of your home, follow in a virtual tour in Charles Dickens’ footsteps in a walk from Highgate to the hamlet of North End on the border with Hampstead and Hampstead Garden Suburb. We will follow some of Bill Sikes escape route after murdering Nancy in Oliver Twist, see houses that Dickens stayed in; learn about his friendship with philanthropist Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts; view the house that inspired Steerforth’s mother’s house in David Copperfield and peep into Highgate Cemtrey where several members of the Dickens family were buried and follow the Gordon rioters in Barnaby Rudge towards Lord Mansfield’s country estate at Kenwood (Caen Wood). We will pay a visit o the Spaniard’s Inn featured in the Pickwick Papers and continue with Bill Sikes’ journey in Oliver Twist from Highgate Hill across the grounds of Kenwood towards Northend and Hendon. We finish in North End where we view the 17th farmhouse that Dickens lodged in after the death of his sister in law Mary Hogarth.
