mini mozart

Mini Mozart offers fun and interactive live music classes for toddlers and babies. The classes feature two or more live instruments; a clarinet, violin, flute, French horn, saxophone or trumpet with a piano accompanist. The idea of Mini Mozart is to get children actually listening, not just hearing. Children interact with our live musicians in a way that is impossible with recorded music.

It’s hard to say which will be your favourite part of the class; the warm up where the teachers introduce their instruments allowing your little one to get up close and touch the instruments, or the part where they reveal their suitcase full of fun props that will entice your child on an interactive musical adventure.

Packed with puppets, parachutes & percussion, bursting with Bach & bubbles, and flush with fairy tales and flutes; follow our rotating team of 4 teachers and their piano accompanist on a multi-sensory musical journey that will inspire your little one with instruments from every section of the orchestra.

“I couldn’t wait to get out and about after Alfie was born. Mini Mozart was perfect because it was interesting for both of us!” Claire, Mum to Alfie (aged 4 months)

The Government Inspector @ Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Jul 11 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

presented by irrational theatre

written by Nikolai Gogol

As the lights flicker….it’s 1979 in Worsborough Dale.

A letter arrives…

…announcing the arrival of a government inspector, incognito, and ready to root out the town’s rampant corruption, which sends the crooked council chairman and his bureaucrats into a panicked frenzy.

A web of lies and bribery follows in this comic satire of a small town’s utter madness, shadiness and self delusion.

Nobody is free from the taint of ravenous self-interest, bureaucracy, buffoonery and more. Their actions are held up to scorn and ridicule in this hilarious yet moral tale.

Jul 15 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Written by John Godber

Lucky Eric, Judd, Les and Ralph are the original men in black as they tell the tale of one night in a disco in the 80’s in this outrageous parody of Saturday Night Fever! All the gang are out on the town, the boys, the girls, the cheesy DJ, the late night kebab man and the taxi home, all under the watchful eyes of the Bouncers.

A Game of Two Halves presents

Jude is desperate for a child, Terry is lost and looking for company.

In a thought provoking, bitter sweet comedy one of them decides to make the other an offer he can’t refuse.

From the older man’s perspective the play explores fear, loneliness, hope, loss and expectation.

Inspired by the 2011 film ‘England Expects’ Rod Silvers (Terry) and James Petherick (Jude) wish to raise awareness of the rarely discussed issue of childless men.

Confessions of a Superhero @ Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Aug 15 @ 8:45 pm – 10:45 pm

Presented by A Major Theatre Company

New musical Confessions of a Superhero centres around a young girl named Jenny-lee and her quest to discover her true identity in a world where the extraordinary is just… ordinary. Haunted by her own untameable powers, she seeks out a group dedicated to helping Superheroes cope with the daily struggles and pressures that come with the job, in the hope that they will provide her with some much needed guidance. However, it quickly becomes clear that the heroes Jenny once looked up to aren’t as super as she once thought, a realisation made even more worrying by the resurgence of a powerful super villain. Will Jenny be able to find the path destiny has always intended? Or will this lost soul, as so many do, fly too close to the sun?

Within an hour of the search, trowel hit bone. Then the thunder rolled in. The archaeologists had disturbed something that should not have been.
Poor, poor Richard. Dug up, he now must endlessly repeat the events that led to his inevitably gruesome death.
Both helmets and hard hats combine: Join us for a fusion of modern and 15th century slander.

Oct 14 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Following their sell-out, award-winning show Enter The Dragons, A&E Comedy (Abigail Dooley and Emma Edwards, “a brilliant comedy coupling” Total Theatre) return with a spell-binding, surreal and darkly hilarious tale, directed by Cal McCrystal.

“I think they are amazing!!” Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Witch Hunt weaves a cautionary fairytale for our time. It celebrates the wisdom of the witch, unpacks the notion of predator and conjures a world of coven-ready weird sisters.

“Watch out, there are wild women about.  Knicker-Wettingly funny” Total Theatre

A ritualistic voodoo brouhaha designed to enchant and hex the pricks and predators; imagine Vic and Bob doing The Crucible.

Using buffoon, puppetry and magic and armed with a ‘wiccan’ sense of humour, A&E Comedy ask “can we use witchcraft to take down the Patriarchy?” Yes we can!

Night Light @ Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Jun 6 @ 7:30 pm – 8:45 pm

Night Light is a 1-hour, 3-act, fast-paced, conversational comedy. 3 children in their mid-20s put off growing up until they’re forced to let go of each other’s hands and pass on the night light.

Our Irish duo Robyn and Rian take on the harsh realities of living in central London, Randy attempts to write his way out of his situation, and Laura tries to teach them all there is more to life than nerf gun fights, in-jokes and a mattress that wasn’t built for three.

Directed by Tom Chandler (Juliet & Romeo).

About Giggle Riot Theatre:

Laughter is the Best Medicine @ Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Nov 13 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Research suggests that laughter can offer stress relief, soothe tension, improve mood and even relieve pain. This charity comedy event will put that to the test, and endeavour to show case that Laughter is the Best Medicine.

With the genius comedy stylings of Ali Woods (“In a world of wannabes, Woods is the real deal” – The Evening Standard), Elf Lyons (“Praise her genius” – The Telegraph), Raj Poojara (BBC New Comedy Awards Regional Finalist, 2Northdown Comedian of the Year Finalist) and Markus Birdman (Britain’s Got Talent 2023 Semi-Finalist), the event promises to be a night of laughter and good deeds.

The evening event will be raising money for InspireUK – The Charity, a small charity which offers low-cost and accessible therapy for those who need it, with a particular focus on marginalised communities.
