Fresh from our acclaimed 40th birthday production Throwback, and continuing our partnership with the rising stars of UK circus, Silver Lining returns for this one-off special fusion of live music and stunning circus. Featuring a host of multi-talented musical circus artists, expect singers on handstands, torch songs on cyr wheels and arias in the air.

It’s girls on top in this rip-roaring, trail-blazing night to remember! Hosted by the inimitable and award-winning Sh!t Theatre, Flappers brings together some of the most exciting talent from circus, comedy and live art. A range of acts will be announced over the coming weeks (keep your eyes fixed on us) and oh yes, did we mention they’re all female?

The Francis Crick Institute
Clare Davy and Professor Julian Downward, FRS
The Francis Crick Institute conducts ground-breaking medical research to understand why disease develops and to find new ways to prevent and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections and neurodegenerative diseases. These talks will survey the history of the Crick and introduce its new home next to St Pancras, before focussing on some of the cancer research being conducted there.

| 9 October 2017 Dr Scott Crawford and Dr Ben Weston, Highgate SchoolThe Biology department organises biennial international expeditions for sixth form pupils; past visits include Honduras in 2012 and Madagascar in 2015. This year a party of twenty four pupils visited the Amazonian region of Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands to take part in active conservation research in association with a group of university scientists. In this presentation, the group leaders, Dr Crawford and Dr Weston, will review the expedition and outline the biological significance of the various habitats that the pupils explored.

Chopin and his patrons
Distinguished pianist Tomasz Lis will present the seventh concert in the series of Music At Unique Venues. The lecture recital will take place at Lauderdale House, build in 1582 during the reign of Elisabeth I. In 1645 the house was inherited by Earl of Lauderdale and visited by such notable people like Charles II, Samuel Pepys and Nell Gwyn.
During the evening Tomasz Lis will give a recital of Chopin’s music as well as discuss his most illustrious patrons, focusing his attention on the three most lavish and distinguished salons of the day ruled over by Harriet Lady Granville, Baroness Thérèse d’Apponyi and Baronne Betty de Rothschild.
The lecture recital will by illustrated with paintings by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Eugène Delacroix. Wine will be served during the interval and the audience will have an exclusive access to the house and its surrounding gardens.

Using circus as a physical vocabulary, the award-winning Proteus will translate the fever dream style of Angela Carter’s macabre fairy tales to the stage. The Bloody Chamber is a heady, erotic, and surprisingly funny re-phrasing of some of the most famous folk and fairy tales in Western culture.
At a moment when women and men across the country confront the double standards of safety, sex, and the fears of what goes bump in the night, Carter’s incendiary caustic take on fairy stories as cautionary tales could not be a more formidable challenge to the status quo.
