Mama’s Kitchen is a place for experimentation and curious concoctions, serving up a menu of pioneering performance.
The brainchild of Shunt artist Layla Rosa and curated especially for Postcards, expect circus artists, theatre makers, musicians, visual artists and a whole heap of other exciting performances that we’re not entirely sure about just yet.
But if previous outings at The Shunt Lounge are anything to go by, Mama’s Kitchen will be unexpected and hugely memorable.

Battle Field Surgery: Blood Pus and Pain
Discover the gory facts and curious tools used in a time before anesthetics and antiseptics. Meet Mr King, Crimean Surgeon RN, for an enlightening demonstration of the techniques in the theatre of war (not for the faint hearted).
Geoff King will share his wide knowledge of historic medical technique with his amazing collection of real and replica instruments and a little audience participation. Discover how an amputation took place, what happened if you had a bladder stone and learn about the kind of injuries occurred during war.
Combining high-level circus skills with pathos, humour and beauty, Jess Love creates a vision that is at once delicately touching, visually enchanting and heart-warmingly playful. Dark clowning, dirty acrobatics and surreal sideshow feats go hand-in-hand with slapstick, roller-skating, hula hoops, skipping and hopscotch acrobatics – phew! With crafted storytelling and awe inspiring images on a bed of roses and broken glass, it’s so sweet you’ll want to squeal!
