COFFEE & COMPUTERS @ Jacksons Lane
Feb 27 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Need advice about what computer, laptop or tablet to buy?
Still grappling with how to use the one you have already?
Or just fancy coming along and having a play?

COFFEE & COMPUTERS IS FOR YOU

We hold informal one-to-one computer familiarisation sessions over a cup of coffee on the last Friday of the month.

No need to bring anything, just yourself.

“The computer has given me a new life” says 69 year old Coffee & Computers visitor. And the Government has just announced a major new initiative to get everyone over the age of 55 on to the Internet.

So if you are over 55 (or thereabouts) and the very mention of computers bring you out in a cold sweat, call Stuart on 020 8347 2411 or email kirstenhs2012@gmail.com (quoting Coffee & Computers) and give us an idea of what you want to know more about.

Or just come along for the coffee and have a dabble.

You’ll soon wonder how you ever lived without being wired!

We look forward to seeing you

Swish and Style @ Jacksons Lane
Mar 26 @ 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Tired of your t-shirts? Wish you had some different dresses? Save money by bringing along your unwanted (but wearable) clothes to our Swish and Style event and go home with a new-to-you outfit, all for free!

It’s simple. Have a clear out and bring good quality clothes to one of our seven events. For each item you bring, you get a token that you can exchange for another garment (maximum 10 items). Everything is free, everything is clean and everything will be re-worn and re-loved.

How it works

For the first hour (12.30 – 1.30), everyone is invited to drop off their clothes, shoes and accessories that they want to donate. Whilst we busily sort them into style and hang them on hangers, you’ll be free to check out the workshops – learning how to do simple fixes to your clothes and how to upcycle them into something completely different – a jumper becomes a hot water bottle cover, a treasured Babygro becomes a patchwork memory blanket and an old t-shirt becomes a bag. If you have any clothes that need a little TLC, bring them along and our seamstress can fix them for you for free while you wait.

The from 2pm until 3pm, you get to look through all the clothes and choose what you want. If you love it, take it. It’s first come, first served – but no elbows please!

What can you bring?

Please bring along:

  • Clean and wearable clothes, shoes and accessories
  • No damage, holes and stains
  • You can bring women’s, men’s, children’s and baby clothes
  • No underwear please, unless in sealed, unworn condition

Anything that we deem unacceptable will be given back to you and you will not be given a token. We have the right to turn away any item.

Please note only adults will be allowed at events. Parents with children under the age of 12 can bring them but they must remain under the parents’ supervision at all times.

Any clothes that are left over at the end of the event will be donated to the Salvation Army.

madame viardot’s salon

by salon musical & test of time entertainment

Songs, violin and piano music by Fauré, Chopin, Duparc, Elgar, poetry by Baudelaire

Salon musical is a unique show of theatre and music where audience members escape the every-day and venture into a world of beautiful music and poetry as well as flirtation, gossip and intrigue. A cast of five young professional performers – two singers, an actor, a violinist and a pianist – all graduates from the top London music and drama conservatoires, play historical characters and weave together music and scripted dialogue. The show’s creation has involved academic research as well as professional direction and costume design.

Experience has shown that the shows bring alive the past in an informative yet entertaining way. The performers engage with the audience throughout the evening to create a relaxed, immersive and intimate social gathering.

Picture yourself as a guest at the home of celebrated 19th century singer, composer and pianist Pauline Viardot, being introduced to emerging composer, Gabriel Fauré, eminent and provocative poet Stéphane Mallarmé and their protégés. They will be performing their latest music and poetry and you will witness their spontaneous music making.

Black Sheep @ Jacksons Lane
Sep 29 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

After moving from Germany to London over ten years ago to live and work in a more diverse community, renowned sword swallower, circus artist and dazzling burlesque artist Livia Kojo Alour learned that life-long feelings of self-hatred and otherness are part internalised racism and part survival techniques. With a successful career under her stage name MisSa, but tiring of playing someone else full-time, Black Sheep has been long in the making, serving as a candid autobiographical work and a euphoric reclamation of Livia’s identity and ongoing fortitude.

Black Sheep is a story about a Black woman finding love and a testament of personal strength, developed through transcending the white gaze, overcoming institutional racism and leaning into radical vulnerability. Securing her place as a pivotal UK Queer Black voice while telling her story via a heady mix of physical theatre, spoken word, song and sword swallowing, Black Sheep is timely, unsettling and deeply personal.

Suitable for ages 14+
