Travellers’ tales: Why visit Jordan? @ Highgate Society
Feb 21 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

With so much coverage being given to the troubles in Gaza and the West Bank many people may wonder whether a country in the Middle East is a suitable destination for this year’s holiday.  Be assured the principal travel companies continue to operate tours to Jordan as normal, considering it as a wholly safe destination and, as Richard Webber and Jane Campbell will hope to show, even a short visit will expose you to the remains of many different civilisations and a variety of stunning desert landscapes in a hassle-free environment largely undiscovered by mass tourism

Knot is a modern affair told with delicate sensitivity through breath-taking acrobatics and heart wrenching dance.

Knot is co-commissioned and supported by Jacksons Lane, Déda, Jerwood Choreographic Research Project II, The National Centre for Circus Arts, Arts Council England and Warwick Arts Centre.

Space Junk @ Jacksons Lane
Mar 14 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Inspired by the Cosmos Archeology project at EPFL, Space Junk tells the story of a space suit pushed out into space on an ephemeral orbit of the earth with a radio transmitter, known as SuitSat. A friendship is formed between a life-sized puppeteered space suit and a human, embodied by a dance and aerial artist.

With over 100 million pieces of space junk orbiting the planet, Space Junk is a tale of love, loss, new frontiers, the destructive power of human carelessness and our constructive capacity for hope and compassion.

Please be aware that this a work in progress performance.

Guerrilla Gardening
Mar 23 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Our Guerrilla Gardening group has been busy with planning for 2024 since our evening workshop in November. Work has included a walk-about through the N6 area to survey 16 potential sites for our activities and developing a map with notes, so that we can assign actions (even if just monitoring) to each site.

We are now looking for people that can join us to grow this initiative. If you can help out at a gardening event (site clearing, pruning, planting), or might be interested in becoming a ‘champion’ for a particular site near you that needs care, or you simply want to know more, please do get in touch via the contact form on the website or by direct email to: infrastructure@highgatesociety.com. A member of the team will be in touch. You can also sign up to our occasional Guerrilla Gardening newsletter.

Meanwhile, the dates for gardening events have been fixed – see below – so do ‘save the date’ in your diary, if you are interested. We will provide further information as to the event activity and location, each month. Please note, some are evening events and they are not only Saturdays!
