SWON has a really exciting programme this term which is focused around Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto. Raymond Hearne will be the soloist and we are really looking forward to performing with him.
As well as the concerto we’ll be playing Holst’s classic ‘Second Suite for Millitary Band’, a brand new arrangement of Chabrier’s ‘Danse Slave’, Paul Hart’s brilliant ‘Silver Screen’ (music for a silent movie), and some festive tunes to get you in the mood for Christmas.

Learn how to make wonderful pictures! An introduction to the basics of drawing and painting. The classes run on a termly basis and consist of 13 classes. Each week children will build on their skills learnt in previous weeks. The class finishes on week 13 with an informal ‘Private View’ of student work for friends and family. For the beginner and developing student who wishes to explore their creative potential in drawing focusing mainly on Still Life. This term will be exploring essential drawing techniques – observation, perspective, negative spaces, mark-making and composition using historic artefacts at London’s Museums. Be inspired by ancient african and asian objects and wildlife specimens. With support and encouragement from art tutor, Zoe Hirson. Please bring drawing pads, pencils, conte pencils and rubbers. No charcoal, pastels or paints will be allowed inside the museums. It is advisable to bring a foldable chair. Late-comers are welcome, and tuition can be pro-rated.

Explore how to make dynamic compositions that produce interesting paintings using still Life, photographs and sketches as inspiration. For more than 30 years St Joseph’s has heralded Christmas with the Living Crib and we want to make this year’s the biggest ever. Mary, Joseph and Bayleaf the Donkey will be waiting in Pond Square N6 6BA on Sunday Dec 13 to start our procession at 3 pm. Are you a Shepherd or an Angel or a Wiseman or Wisewoman? Come along in your costume and let’s fill Highgate with the Christmas Story. We need lots of people to sing so please come, for everyone, of every age!
