Heritage Guides Unveils “Historic Highlights of Highgate Village – A Guided Tour” HIGHGATE, LONDON (10th, 17th, 24th & 31st August 2025)
This thoughtfully curated 90-minute experience, takes visitors on walk to discover the history and architecture of Highgate, one of London’s most attractive neighbourhoods.
Taking place throughout August, this unique tour traces a carefully crafted route through the village’s significant historic sites, including among others:

Sunday Fun-day Workshop
Our family workshops are designed to share the history of Lauderdale House!
These relaxed, drop-in workshops are perfect for children aged 4 – 10 and include tactile and sensory activities, as well as crafts related to specific periods in Lauderdale House’s history. For September, we’re celebrating our local landmarks – you’ll get to learn about all the amazing buildings that surround us and sketch them to create a collaborative city-scape collage. You’ll also have the chance to discover the architecture of Lauderdale House, from our Tudor beams and fireplaces, to our Georgian ceiling décor – there’s almost 500 years to explore!
Please note all children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
Family Trail: A Walk Back in Time
Learn more about Lauderdale House with your family at this free self-guided trail.
Spot the Tudor beams, find the frog in the Long Gallery ceiling and discover the story of the dog who saved the House. This free trail is designed to be followed at your own pace and can be picked up from the Lower Gallery. The first 50 of children who complete the trail will receive a chocolate treat.

The Casimir Connection performs a blend of original modern classical music and chamber jazz, presenting music that is truly unique: uplifting music reminiscent of Steve Reich and Karl Jenkins, with vibrant contemporary jazz improvisation.
Diane McLoughlin (composer, arranger and saxophones) has had decades of experience as a performer and composer, including her 18-piece big band Giant Steppes. She currently plays with and writes for the award winning jazz quintet, ARQ. The other members of the group are outstanding musicians and improvisors. Alcyona Mick is a renowned jazz pianist, known for her work with Tori Freestone and Natacha Atlas. Kit Massey plays regularly with the Hot Club of Jupiter and the BBC Concert Orchestra and is a teacher at Trinity Laban. Tim Fairhall performs in a variety of genres including the James Patrick Gavin and the John Martin Quartet.
With The Casimir Connection, the emphasis is on emotional expression and storytelling, and audiences in the past have said they found the music moving, inspirational and cinematic.
Caliban Sounds in association with One Little independent Records recently released their second album, Reflection, which has received very positive reviews.
Matthew Wright from Jazz Journal described it as “an impressive album that warrants repeated listening.”
Nick Lea from Jazz Views said it was a …“fine album from an ensemble that is truly bringing a new perspective on classical chamber composition and contemporary jazz and does so with a genuine sense of adventure”.
Jazzwise commented “there’s serenity and optimism..all delivered with virtuosic commitment”. (July 2024)

Jazz in the House: Pete Oxley / Nicolas Meier Guitar Project
For this special Jazz in the House evening, Pete and Nick will feature their new album of original music: ‘Mercurial Indigo’ and will be joined by the great rhythm section of Andy Hamill on acoustic & electric basses (and chromatic harmonica) and Paul Cavaciuti on drums.
The Oxley-Meier Guitar Project, formed by guitarists Pete Oxley and Nicolas Meier, is a unique band that successfully melds contemporary jazz with ‘world-music’. They together create a huge variety of textures and soundscapes, from Middle Eastern influenced music to raucous Brazilian-inspired sambas, using an unusual range of guitars between them – including fretless nylon, acoustic and electric 12 strings, sitar-guitar and 11-string fretless.
Both are internationally acclaimed musicians and they have played all the major UK venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Wigmore Hall, The Sage, Musicport World Music Festival and the London Jazz Festival. They have also toured widely across Europe, presenting the music from all five of their CD releases.

Lesley Dabson: A London Year
10 – 23 October 2025
Lesley Dabson describes herself as a “literal painter”. “When a scene has hooked my attention,
I can’t wait to capture it in oil”. And so it was at our first meeting: within minutes Dabson’s keen eye
has captured shapes, colours, textures; a particular vista or view in and from the HLSI building where
we meet.
In this exhibition, A London Year, Dabson shares city scenes throughout the seasons and in all lights.
She works in oil paint, both in her studio and en plein air directly in front of her subject.
Both practices bring different elements to her work. The immediacy of a changing scene, where
light, tides and weather influence a plein air piece and the calmer atmosphere of her studio where
she can take a more considered approach. “There is no difference in style or brushwork” Dabson
explains,“ but both aspects are important and complementary in my practice”.
Draughtsmanship is fundamental to Dabson’s practice. She is a member of the Hesketh Hubbard
Life Drawing Society, meeting weekly in the Mall Galleries to draw. The professional models, who
live and work in the city choose their own poses; Dabson works at speed and with accuracy. The
studies, primarily in charcoal on textured paper, are included in A London Year.
Dabson has lived in London for over forty years and her work is firmly rooted in the changing
seasons of the city.
In 2024 her work was included in Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, she is an elected member
of Chelsea Art Society and the Royal Society of Birmingham Artists.

The Piaf Story is an acoustic storytelling performance about the life of Edith Piaf and the songs that shaped her career by singer Susan Black accompanied by pianist Aled Thomas.
From the slums of Belleville, Paris to the top of the Eiffel Tower singing ‘Non je ne regrette rien’ just before she died, Susan Black relates the dramatic story of Edith Piaf.
Susan will share anecdotes about Edith’s lovers, joys and tragedies as she sings ‘Les Chansons Réalistes,’ the songs for which Edith is so remembered, including ‘La Vie en Rose,’ ‘Hymne à l’amour’ and ‘Non je ne regrette rein.’
Accompanied by her pianist Aled Thomas, The Piaf Story is an intimate view into a remarkable woman’s life whose voice enabled her to survive through adversity and still has an impact on us today.
Our children’s art classes run on a termly basis, providing children aged 5-8 with an introduction to the basics of drawing and painting.
Each week children will build on their skills learnt in previous weeks, developing their confidence and ability.
Taught by experienced, supportive, and friendly teacher Aynur Erdal, this class is the perfect opportunity to introduce your child to the world of art.
