Shanta Acharya, founder of Lauderdale’s Poetry in the House, is joined by Anthony Rudolf, Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and Penelope Shuttle, widow of poet Peter Redgrove.
The readings include narrative about romance in the world of aviation during that glamorous but flawed decade, the 1930s. The contributors include a producer of independent touring live literature shows, a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and writer; and a poet whose work was shortlisted for the 2012 Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry.
Come along for a fascinating evening with John, a prize-winning poet/playwright; Jenny, an Oxford University tutor whose published works includes a pamphlet of poems in English and Arabic; Lakshmi, an award-winning translator of Tamil poetry, novels and short stories; Will a poet, essayist and literary translator, and John, who has published guides to literary giants such as Yeats, Ted Hughes, Hardy and Edwards Thomas.

The Post War Avant-Garde in Soviet Russia
Dr Elizaveta Butakova Kilgarriff, visiting lecturer at the Courtauld Institute, will talk about Socialist Realism. John Barkes, curator of Highgate Gallery’s current exhibition PAINTINGS FROM SOVIET RUSSIA 1950-1980, will share the platform giving his insights into the Soviet art education system.
Dr Kilgarriff is an academic focussing on the Russian post-war avant-garde. In 2015 she completed her thesis entitled ‘A-Ya Magazine: Soviet unofficial art between Moscow, Paris and New York, 1976-1986’ at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Based on this research, in 2014, she curated the exhibition ‘Paper Museums: Moscow Conceptualism in Transit’ at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton. She has been a visiting lecturer at the Courtauld, UCL and the Ruskin. In 2016, she co-taught the MA ‘Global Conceptualisms’ at the Courtauld Institute.

wilde roses
Wilde Roses is an early music collaboration between singers, multi-instrumentalists, composers, dancers and performers Anna Tam and Emily Alice Ovenden who met whilst they were performing with the Mediaeval Baebes.
Musically and visually inspired by the medieval and renaissance world, we draw our repertoire from illuminated manuscripts, courtly song books, Elizabethan broadside ballads and the folk tradition. Fascinated by the stories in these songs – medieval religious imagery so beautifully infused with nature; renaissance tales of piracy, jilted lovers and general folly alongside some of the most sincere and tender love songs that reach to the heart of life and human relationships.
Anna Tam (musical director, singer, nyckelharpa, viola da gamba, hurdy gurdy player, percussion) enjoys and eclectic career both in the folk and classical genres. She trained as a classical singer and instrumentalist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During her early studies, she performed at the Wigmore Hall and on BBC Radio 3 and has been touring internationally since she was 15.
Emily Alice Ovenden (singer, recorders, percussion) received a scholarship from Andrew Lloyd Webber to study in London. With the Mediaeval Baebes she has made several albums, and recorded themes for BBC TV shows Victoria and Elizabeth. Emily made 3 acclaimed albums with her band PYTHIA and has recorded vocals for multi platinum selling band Dragonforce.
