Spring Flower Show @ Highgate United Reformed Church

Spend an hour amond the flowers at our 50th Spring Show
Highgate Horticultural Society’s 50th Spring Show will be held on Saturday 28 March 2015 at the United Reformed Church, South Grove, Highgate Village.
The first of the year’s shows is always a great delight as our daffodils, tulips and flowering shrubs take centre stage, bursting with spring scent and colour!
The show, including plant and produce stalls and homemade teas and cakes is open from 2-5pm.  Awards will be presented at 3.30 pm, and the raffle drawn at 4.30 pm followed by the auction of exhibits.
 
This year’s classes include:
> Cut bulbs: hyacinths, tulips, daffoldils & amaryllis
> Bulbs in growth: tulips & daffoldils
> Pot plants: primula, foliage plants, african violets & cacti
> Cut flowers: pansies, primula, hellebores & flowering shrubs

> Floral Art: including exhibits on a theme of “woodland walk” and “morning glow”
> Novice entries
> Children’s classes: easter cards and eggs

FROM JULES VERNE TO GEOSTATIONARY SATELLITES @ Mills Centre, Highgate School

The satellite business is much larger than many of us realise.  This talk will describe the history of geostationary communications satellites, from concept to implementation, before concentrating on the operations of British company Inmarsat, and the role that it was able to play in the mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.  The speaker, Emanuele Guariglia, is Director, Earth Stations Engineering at Inmarsat.

We have introduced a Pay What You Decide policy for Postcards Festival 2016 shows.

You can attend the shows without paying for a ticket beforehand, but tickets can be reserved in advance (max 4 per booking). When the show finishes, you will have the opportunity to make a donation – either by cash on the door or card at the Box Office.
