BUST: A new play by Naomi Lowde @ The Red Hedgehog
Sep 10 @ 6:30 pm – 6:30 pm

BUST is based in London, and focuses on a group of thirty-somethings who are growing up. Faced with real life challenges and topics (e.g. breast cancer, miscarriage, accidents, gay partnership…) BUST explores the measures people take to fulfill their sense of purpose in the world. Essentially, it’s commentary on commitment, sacrifice and family.

After Naomi Lowde’s well-received musical debut, “Redundancy the Musical” (www.redundancythemusical.com) at the Hen and Chickens Theatre in February last year (www.offwestend.com/index.php/plays/view/7201), she worked on several new pieces and productions in Hong Kong. Now Lowde has returned to London to debut BUST.

*10% of ticket sales will be donated to The Carers Trust.

**The Red Hedgehog operates a Green Transport Scheme. Those traveling to the venue by environmentally friendly methods will recieve a £1 voucher to be used at the bar or against a future ticket purchase.

Eight week Mindfulness Programme at Jacksons Lane @ Jacksons Lane
Apr 4 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

What is Mindfulness?

‘Mindfulness’ is at the very heart of meditational practice and trains us to focus on the present moment. This allows us to gain insight into mental patterns that sometimes cause negative emotions. We also learn, through experience what it means to spend less time with our thoughts and spend more time in our bodies enjoying life. It can be practiced by people from all walks of life and is becoming more and more popular as a means of psychological treatment. There is now a strong evidence base demonstrating that it can be very beneficial for those experiencing depression and anxiety, as well as many other conditions. Mindfulness allows us to make friends with our thinking mind making us less vulnerable to negative mental activity. Such practice can bring about a deep sense of inner peace and a fresh acceptance of reality itself.

The Eight Sessions

This new and innovative group will take place over eight weekly sessions, each of 2-hours duration and covers the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation, applied theory and practice. Some aspects of CBT will also be used within the course syllabus where required to help group members to deal with dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviours. This specific group has been successfully taught in several London universities and also within the NHS. This group will help you to:

  • improve your focus and concentration levels
  • lower bodily stress and increase relaxation
  • explore how your mind works
  • explore how your mind habitually creates unhealthy thought processes and worry
  • help you to prevent the arising of depressive moods before they spiral
  • achieve a robust and healthy mind, accepting reality and the world around you
  • work towards acceptance of unhealthy emotions
  • achieve a deep sense of calm, patience and stillness
  • grow and mature as a true human being and explore what it means to be ‘me’

This will be particularly helpful for those people experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, attention problems or any condition involving a fast-thinking anxious mind.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Commitment to the full x8 weekly sessions is imperative, as is the diligent undertaking of daily life meditation tasks between sessions. Only those people who are willing to make the commitment and complete the between session tasks should attend.   Places are limited to ensure a high quality of client support. This course is open to everyone but attendance must be booked in advance and approved by the course leader before the beginning of the programme. All attendees must be 18+ with any exceptions discussed prior to the beginning of the course.

Eight week Mindfulness Programme at Jacksons Lane @ Jacksons Lane
May 23 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Bellway hosts Highgate Art Exhibition to showcase local talent – local residents invited to enjoy some culture, carols and canapes

On Thursday 14th December, from 6.30pm until 9.00pm, local developer, Bellway Homes is hosting an exhibition of captivating, vibrant paintings by local artist, Michèle Janes – one of the UK’s leading original abstract artists. This free exhibition will take place at Bellway Homes’ prestigious new development on Bishops Road, Highgate, where local residents are invited to attend a festive evening of culture, canapés and carol singing.

The exhibition will be opened by Councillor Stephen Mann, Mayor of Haringey, and a selection of paintings will be available to purchase at the event – 10% of the proceeds will be donated to The Mayors’ Special Fund Appeal ‘Making a Difference for Mental Health’.

The exhibition will deliver an ‘abstract Christmas’ to leafy Highgate – a selection of paintings with vibrant colour as the dominant theme – showcasing Michèle’s love of London life and “the feline world big and small”. It will
feature a range of both paper framed and canvas art work. ‘Abstract freelance’ pieces will include colour integrations with a high gloss finish (on paper framed), combining minimalist and full on colour effects. This selection of
images are destined to brighten up the most mundane of environments, by adding a true WOW factor.

‘Abstract defined’ pieces will include colour integrations with a more delicate feel – allowing greater scope for interpretation – featured on canvass. These abstract images represent the artist’s emotion at any given time (Michèle’s work is often acclaimed for her honesty of expression).
