LUCID BODY BASICS, a physical acting process for everyone

Lucid Body is a process of self exploration designed for actors but accessible for anyone who wants to reconnect with their body and explore the habits that are locking them into unwanted patterns.

When a person is connected to their body we feel it – we sense their intentions, emotions, we feel their presence in the room, they seem alive and in the moment.

In January and February 2015 we are offering a six-week Basics class to explore the fundamental elements of this challenging Psycho-Physical Integration Process.

We will work to:

Create a safe and challenging environment for deep exploration.
Draw awareness to, and break, the postural habits and emotional patterns that bind us.
Use our unique physical and emotional impulses in our creativity.
Connect breath to body.
Gain an in-depth understanding of the Seven Energy Centres of the body.
Let go of control and anticipation.
Live and work in the moment.

You don’t need to be an actor to participate, but you do need a brave heart, a willingness to play and some comfortable clothes to do movement work in.

www.lucidbodylondon.com

Immediately following this course, we are offering a four-week Advanced course which can be taken separately or in conjunction with this Basics course.  See website for special pricing package when booking Basics and Advanced together.

Raniah Al-Sayed currently teaches Lucid Body at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, The Drama Studio London and Arts Educational Schools London. She trained as an actor, firstly as a young artist at the BRIT School and, later, at The Michael Howard Studios NY where she met Lucid Body Founder Fay Simpson.  After completing her teacher training with Fay, Raniah returned to her childhood city to found Lucid Body London.  She continues to act, write and direct while teaching in schools and privately.

Highgate Clean-Up @ Highgate Society
May 2 @ 9:30 am – 1:00 pm

Following on from the telephone boxes renovation last year, we have organised a clean-up morning for the streets around the immediate centre of Highgate. A bit late for a full Spring clean, our aim for this first event is to clean up some of the irritating things we all see that can be easily remedied: green moss on road signs, small bits of graffiti, corners where litter builds up. Where a job needs doing but demands greater expertise like a broken or bent sign or railings we would list these fully to let Camden Council or Haringey Council know this as a Highgate Society request. If you would like to take part we would be delighted to see you. All ages and abilities are welcome. Old clothes are needed but we will provide plastic gloves and all necessary clearing materials, including rags and buckets.

Suggestions for specific clean up points, large or small, also welcomed! It would be particularly helpful if you would indicate if you intend to help so we can have an idea of numbers and materials needed.”

Eight week Mindfulness Programme at Jacksons Lane @ Jacksons Lane
Apr 4 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

What is Mindfulness?

‘Mindfulness’ is at the very heart of meditational practice and trains us to focus on the present moment. This allows us to gain insight into mental patterns that sometimes cause negative emotions. We also learn, through experience what it means to spend less time with our thoughts and spend more time in our bodies enjoying life. It can be practiced by people from all walks of life and is becoming more and more popular as a means of psychological treatment. There is now a strong evidence base demonstrating that it can be very beneficial for those experiencing depression and anxiety, as well as many other conditions. Mindfulness allows us to make friends with our thinking mind making us less vulnerable to negative mental activity. Such practice can bring about a deep sense of inner peace and a fresh acceptance of reality itself.

The Eight Sessions

This new and innovative group will take place over eight weekly sessions, each of 2-hours duration and covers the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation, applied theory and practice. Some aspects of CBT will also be used within the course syllabus where required to help group members to deal with dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviours. This specific group has been successfully taught in several London universities and also within the NHS. This group will help you to:

  • improve your focus and concentration levels
  • lower bodily stress and increase relaxation
  • explore how your mind works
  • explore how your mind habitually creates unhealthy thought processes and worry
  • help you to prevent the arising of depressive moods before they spiral
  • achieve a robust and healthy mind, accepting reality and the world around you
  • work towards acceptance of unhealthy emotions
  • achieve a deep sense of calm, patience and stillness
  • grow and mature as a true human being and explore what it means to be ‘me’

This will be particularly helpful for those people experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, attention problems or any condition involving a fast-thinking anxious mind.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Commitment to the full x8 weekly sessions is imperative, as is the diligent undertaking of daily life meditation tasks between sessions. Only those people who are willing to make the commitment and complete the between session tasks should attend.   Places are limited to ensure a high quality of client support. This course is open to everyone but attendance must be booked in advance and approved by the course leader before the beginning of the programme. All attendees must be 18+ with any exceptions discussed prior to the beginning of the course.

Eight week Mindfulness Programme at Jacksons Lane @ Jacksons Lane
May 16 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Join the Great British Spring Clean campaign @ Highgate Society
Mar 4 @ 10:15 am – 12:00 pm

Join the Great British Spring Clean campaign, Saturday 4 March 10.15 – 11.30 am

at the Highgate Society 10A South Grove, Highgate

During the weekend of 3-5 March many people across the country will take part in the Great British Spring Clean campaign. Last year the campaign got 250,000 people outdoors, active and involved in clean up events.

The Highgate Society is organising one such event. We will supply protective gloves and rubbish bags. All we ask is that you bring yourself, some warm clothing and your enthusiasm. We will start with a short briefing at the Highgate Society 10A South Grove at 10.15 am and then leave for approximately an hour’s tidy up in and around Highgate village. Afterwards, if you have time,  we can warm up and enjoy a tea or coffee back at 10A until midday.

You’ll be joining an ever growing band of people who have had enough of other people’s litter, are willing to donate their time to help clear it up and want to see an end to littering. We’ll prepare a short report afterwards to highlight awareness of what we find.

For any questions please contact the organiser Andrew Sulston via the Highgate Society Website.
