7pm A monthly showcase for new songwriters/bands: each act performs two of their own songs and one cover version by the featured artist of the month. Now established as one of London’s premier music nights, “Under the Influence” at the Boogaloo has really taken off over the last two years, having been featured as pick of the week in the Guardian Guide and had write ups in Time Out, The Metro and others. Since it began in June 2010 there have been nights dedicated to Leonard Cohen, Morrissey, Lou Reed, Billy Bragg, Nick Cave, Nina Simone, Captain Beefheart, The Specials, Blondie, Jacques Brel, Ray Davies, Pixies, Belle & Sebastian, Kate Bush, The Clash, The Cure, Prince & more. John Etheridge formed Sweet Chorus in 1998 as a personal tribute to Stephane Grappelli ,the greatest violinist of Jazz, with whom he had toured for many years in the late 70’s, early 80’s ..
The band takes it’s cue from the great Reinhardt /Grappelli repertoire of 1930’s classics but is in no way a slavish itation of that music .
