Relativity @ Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Mar 3 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
In a world where people can break scientific laws just by understanding them, Zadie Sierra works with the government to lock away the rule-breakers: whether it’s thermodynamics, friction or even gravity. But her faith in the system is shaken up when she finds that the next nonconformist to be punished is none other than her scientist sister, Oriana.
Now Zadie must ally with an unlikely bunch of petty criminals: Ocean, a magician who can bend the rules of probability; and Griffin, a dentist with a cavalier attitude to biological laws. Zadie must fight against the system she once upheld, and stop her boss, Fabian Garve MP, from discovering the mysterious ‘Theory of Everything’ that Oriana has been working on.

Guerrilla Gardening
Mar 23 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Our Guerrilla Gardening group has been busy with planning for 2024 since our evening workshop in November. Work has included a walk-about through the N6 area to survey 16 potential sites for our activities and developing a map with notes, so that we can assign actions (even if just monitoring) to each site.

We are now looking for people that can join us to grow this initiative. If you can help out at a gardening event (site clearing, pruning, planting), or might be interested in becoming a ‘champion’ for a particular site near you that needs care, or you simply want to know more, please do get in touch via the contact form on the website or by direct email to: infrastructure@highgatesociety.com. A member of the team will be in touch. You can also sign up to our occasional Guerrilla Gardening newsletter.

Meanwhile, the dates for gardening events have been fixed – see below – so do ‘save the date’ in your diary, if you are interested. We will provide further information as to the event activity and location, each month. Please note, some are evening events and they are not only Saturdays!

Enid Blyton – Noddy, Big-Ears and Lashings of Controversy @ Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Apr 24 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

On A Role presents
Enid Blyton – Noddy, Big-Ears, and Lashings of Controversy.
Wednesday 24 April

Virtually everybody of a certain age has read an Enid Blyton book. She was loved by children (except her younger daughter who hated her) but vilified by the BBC, teachers, critics and librarians.

She sold more than 600 million books, despite all her work being banned by the BBC and many libraries and schools for more than thirty years. She was accused of being a racist and of using such limited vocabulary that it actually hindered children’s reading progress.

Her love-life was interesting and she had numerous affairs including with her children’s nanny. She enjoyed playing golf so much that she bought a golf course near Swanage. She died of Alzheimer’s in 1968 aged 71, mourned by millions of readers all over the world.

Liz Grand (previous shows ‘The Second Best Bed’, ‘Where Is Mrs. Christie?’ and ‘Mrs. Churchill – My Life With Winston’) plays this remarkable and controversial woman and brings you her story.

★★★★★
“The show’s subject is brilliantly played by Liz Grand, already well-versed in portraying strong independent women.”
View From The Stalls

“Liz Grand delivers a great performance as Enid and manages to portray different aspects of her complex character: she is arrogant, and somewhat vindictive at times, more self-aware at others and ultimately rather pitiable.”
