CONSTRUCTS: Katie Hare / Callum Hill / Ellie Power @ LUX | London | England | United Kingdom

CONSTRUCTS is the inaugural exhibition at LUX’s new home in Waterlow Park, in Highgate. It marks LUX’s return to Camden, where its predecessor organisation, the London Film-Makers’ Co-operative, was based for more than three decades.

Curated by Matt Carter, the exhibition features work by three emerging London-based artists who graduated this year: Katie Hare (MFA Goldsmiths), Callum Hill (MA RCA), and Ellie Power (BA Wimbledon). Their work spans across HD video, CGI, gaming networks, installation, animation, found footage and 16mm film, with each artist’s diverse practice engaging with and utilising moving image in its many forms today. The works presented in this exhibition interrogate the constructs of the mediums themselves, the latent power they might hold, and examine their relationships to individual and collective cultural constructs.

CONSTRUCTS continues the partnership initiated in 2014 between Art Licks Weekend and LUX for the Moving Image programme of the festival.

changing of the seasons

1st Half: Bruno Heinen Solo

2nd Half: Bruno Heinen/Camerata Alma Viva

The dynamic ensemble Camerata Alma Viva and renowned jazz pianist/composer Bruno Heinen has embarked on a daring new collaboration. They have recorded theit take on one of the most recognisable and oft performed works in all classical music. Heinen’s Four Seasons is a completely new composition. Rather than an arrangement of the Vivaldi, Heinen to answer the question posed to him by the Camerata. If Vivaldi were alive today, what might a new Four Seasons sound like? Heinen explores a written and improvised language somewhere between jazz and impressionism to attempt to answer. With influences from the historically informed performance practice (emphasising the baroque spirit of freedom and transparency) and the language of of modern jazz improvisation.

They will be launching their album with a solo set from Heinen in the first half and their Changing of the Seasons in the second.

mosaic – london myriad ensemble

Following a very successful concert in February, London Composers Forum takes pride and delight in joining forces for a second time with the London Myriad Ensemble, to present a concert at Lauderdale House, showcasing the music of the ten Forum composers who featured in the February concert.

Since its conception as a professional chamber group in 2004, the London Myriad Ensemble has performed regularly both in the UK and internationally. As first prize International Competition winners in 2009, the ensemble performs a wide repertoire as a flexible ensemble with a wind quartet as its core which expands to quintet when required. ww.londonmyriad.com

With a keen interest in new music and in expanding the repertoire for woodwind chamber ensemble, the London Myriad Ensemble welcomes this second collaboration with London Composers Forum and the chance to explore the broad variety of exciting and accessible music which Forum composers have contributed.

The works in the programme range from jazz-inspired through to pastoral, humorous, festive and elegiac in character and present a fascinating cross-section of the creative mix that makes London Composers Forum a vibrant and dynamic focus for new music in the capital. This concert is supported by the RVW Trust.

London Composers Forum is open to all composers interested in composing contemporary classical music. New members are welcomed regularly. Visit the website: www.londoncomposersforum.org.uk
