PREVIEW: CONSTRUCTS / Katie Hare / Callum Hill / Ellie Power @ LUX
Sep 29 @ 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm
PREVIEW: CONSTRUCTS / Katie Hare / Callum Hill / Ellie Power @ LUX | London | England | United Kingdom

The preview event for CONSTRUCTS.

CONSTRUCTS is the inaugural exhibition at LUX’s new home in Waterlow Park, in Highgate. It marks LUX’s return to Camden, where its predecessor organisation, the London Film-Makers’ Co-operative, was based for more than three decades.

Curated by Matt Carter, the exhibition features work by three emerging London-based artists who graduated this year: Katie Hare (MFA Goldsmiths), Callum Hill (MA RCA), and Ellie Power (BA Wimbledon). Their work spans across HD video, CGI, gaming networks, installation, animation, found footage and 16mm film, with each artist’s diverse practice engaging with and utilising moving image in its many forms today. The works presented in this exhibition interrogate the constructs of the mediums themselves, the latent power they might hold, and examine their relationships to individual and collective cultural constructs.

CONSTRUCTS continues the partnership initiated in 2014 between Art Licks Weekend and LUX for the Moving Image programme of the festival.

The current exhibition Kate Davis: Charity invites the viewer to contemplate fundamental emotions and everyday activities that are often overlooked. Taking artistic representations of breastfeeding as its focus, the film Charity explores how the essential – but largely invisible and unpaid – processes we employ to care for others could be re-imagined. Charity is shown alongside related artworks, bookworks, research materials and a selection of films and videos from the LUX and Cinenova collections.

“A sheer delight to see and listen to” (Arran Music Society, 2016)

Fiona Harrison, (Classical Guitar)
“… a musician of great sensitivity both to her instrument and the mood of the music … gifted with a superbly confident technique.” (Hampshire Chronicle)

Travel on a rich and exciting musical journey with these two fine soloists.
Innovative Latin American harpist, composer and poet, Ricardo Curbelo, combines traditional music from a variety of Latin American countries, together with his own, spellbinding compositions. Vibrant, energetic and jazzy pieces contrast with more classical, enchanting melodies and tender vocals. He is delighted to share this concert with wonderful classical guitarist, Fiona Harrison, who will also present a fascinating and varied programme of music, crossing cultures and centuries from Renaissance England through to contemporary Japan.
