You can become a Dementia Friend! @ Trees
Oct 21 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

We’re inviting you to join a social movement and to become a Dementia Friend! To “understand a bit more about dementia, and the little ways you can help.”

People with dementia get by with a little help from their friends. And anybody can become a Dementia Friend. It’s just about understanding a bit more about dementia and the small things you can do to help people with the condition. People with dementia want to carry on going about their daily lives and feeling included in their local community, but they sometimes need a helping hand to do so. Dementia Friends learn a little bit about what it’s like to live with dementia and turns that understanding into action. This could be helping someone find the right bus or being patient in a till queue if someone with dementia is taking longer to pay. Every action counts!

Join us and Sue, a Dementia Friends Champion, who will deliver an information session on Tuesday 21st October 2014 at 2:00pm – 3:00pm

To book a place, please contact Damian on Damian.Domski@hillhomes.co.uk or 0208 347 3690

Please mind, being a Dementia Friend isn’t about volunteering or fundraising (though you can do that too if you want). For more information please go to: www.dementiafriends.org.uk

the meritus collective @ Lauderdale House
Dec 19 @ 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm

the meritus collective

The Meritus Collective was established to bring together musicians of all instruments who shared a passion for chamber music and to provide platforms from which to perform. Members have trained at most of the major conservatoires in Britain and between them have performed as parts of chamber groups all around the world and for orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonia Orchestra.

Meritus was the pseudonym of Felix Mendelssohn given to the young composer by Robert Schumann. It translates roughly as ‘happy through merit’ and is an inspiring and effective byword for this young and dynamic group of musicians who will be bringing a varied and exciting set of programmes to Lauderdale House over the coming year.

The Meritus Collective will perform a selection of works for flute, clarinet and string.

Brahms: A German Requiem @ St. Michael's Church
Mar 30 @ 7:30 pm – 8:45 pm

Brahms’ gorgeous, stirring Ein Deutsches Requiem is one of the great choral works, full of warm, rich harmonies. Inspired perhaps by the deaths of his mother, and his friend and fellow composer Robert Schumann, its music evokes comfort, loss, fear, peace and joy. Unlike other well known requiems, Brahms’ is not so much a mass for the dead as an offering of solace to those who mourn.

Jane Hopkins conducts Voxcetera, with soprano Ellie Sperling and baritone Jamie Sperling, using Iain Farrington’s acclaimed arrangement of the score for chamber ensemble. It promises to be both a grand and intimate experience.

There will be a bar open before and after the performance, and Voxcetera hopes you’ll stay to join us for wine and cake when the music finishes.

Voxcetera is a north London-based choir performing regularly in north and central London. Recent activity includes concerts at St Martin-in-the-fields, East Finchley Arts Festival, tours to southern Germany and recording work for Unicef’s Generations campaign. Its most recent Highgate concert was for Christmas 2018, in St Josephs RC Church.
