HowTheLightGetsIn Global is a worldwide online festival experience, gathering Nobel laureates, groundbreaking journalists, mindblowing scientists, and the world’s leading thinkers in all fields to debate the most urgent, fascinating dilemmas we face in 2020.

With social distancing ongoing, the festival will be livestreamed online, featuring three programmes of events beamed from Delhi, London and New York, so that whatever continent you call home, you can check in on a time zone that suits you!

Over the weekend 19-20 September, we’ll be livestreaming over 200 events on eight stages, including folk, electro and world music acts, all-night DJ parties balanced out by stand-up comedy and mind-boggling debates and talks on everything from particle physics to patriarchy! In addition there will be a whole host of social spaces where you can meet other festival goers, chat to your friends and make new ones, talk over the events you’ve seen, bump into speakers and artists, listen to some great music together – and dance the night away!

The speaker line-up is nothing short of spectacular this year, with the world’s leading thinkers accessible right from the comfort of your computer screen! Speakers will include Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, who’ll battle it out with opponents over the right way for public policy after coronavirus; Bianca Jagger, champion of human rights and fierce denier of moral relativism; Vandana Shiva, one of the world’s most prominent environmental activists; Daniel Dennett, cognitive scientist and one of the famed “Four Horsemen” of atheism along with counterparts Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens; and Sabine Hossenfelder, a theoretical physicist and quantum gravity expert. Other great minds includes Nancy Fraser, Abhijit Banerjee, Samantha Power, P.J. O’Rourke, Grace Blakeley, Rory Stewart, Polly Toynbee, Rupert Sheldrake, and Joanna Kavenna.

It wouldn’t be HowTheLightGetsIn without a fantastic music line-up to help you shake away those social distancing blues. This time around, the festival will play host to folk legend and ‘Send in the Clowns’ songstress Judy Collins; altrockers This is the Kit; multi-instrumentalist auteur Cosmo Sheldrake; and many more.
