Where does creativity come from? Is natural talent blessed into an individual from some unknown divinity? Perhaps it’s gifted from an environment so saturated with creativity, it’s impossible not to soak up its secrets.
Paint Splattered Genes seeks to rip at the seams of this supposition and lay bare its findings at Highgate Gallery at Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution for all to see!
The exhibition spans four generations of makers from a 90-year-old great-grandmother to a 2-year old’s first impressions.
This family of artists comes together beyond the dinner table to lay a feast for the eyes. Botanical watercolours, father and son en plein air local landscapes, portraiture, textiles, woodcuts, embroidery and prints are some of the many mediums on display for pondering and purchase. Subjects vary from local landscapes and landmarks, art history and the everyday in many mediums.
A member of the third generation of artists will also be doing speed portraits of visitors on the 11th and 18th July. He has been speed portraiture at various London venues recently including the National Portrait Gallery.
