Every Thursday the Friends of Waterlow Park (FOWP) in Highgate organise a volunteer session to restore and maintain places in the park that fall outside of the Camden maintenance contract. Amongst them are Sensory Border, the Lauderdale Terraces, the floral sundial, and the rose border. Everyone is welcome to take part. You don’t need gardening experience, tools or even gloves as these are all provided. We meet every Thursday at 10am at the Lauderdale Cafe and finish at about 1pm. It’s a great way of keeping fit and getting some fresh air and exercise while enjoying being around other people. We will finish for the year on the 20th December and reconvene in March. For further details go to the FOWP website: www.waterlowpark.org.uk or contact Patricia Walby, patriciawalby@gmail.com, Tel: 07710 312105.

Following from last year’s successful performance of Rossini’s ‘Cinderella’ at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in London’s Highgate, Opera Loki is staging a production of Verdi’s La Traviata. The performance marks the 200th anniversary of Verdi’s birth.
This year, Opera Loki sets a pocket production of this dramatic masterpiece in 1930s Paris. For years Flora has kept her beloved friends hidden away from the world and its troubles. The beautiful Violetta and her fellow Bright Young Things have kept the party rolling for years, sharing love affairs, endless nights, wealth and happiness. However, their world is changing; fascism is rising to the east, a handsome stranger has infiltrated their little world, and Violetta is dying. Clinging to the people and comfort around her, Violetta tries her best to stop time marching on. What happens when the party ends?”
Sung in English with a translation by Edmund Tracey.

The emotion of an entire opera in little over an hour. Opera Villa InCanto brings their alternative to staged operas from Verona, Italy to Lauderdale House. This is a powerful but intimate show by an excellent cast of singers, who have sung across Europe.

In aid of its newly chosen charity LA fitness is holding an in-club challenge to recreate the ‘Walking With The Wounded’ South Pole Expedition to raise money to help injured ex-servicemen and women adapt to life outside of the armed forces. The challenge will mirror the 16 days that the expedition is expected to last and will start on the 1st September across over 75 of its clubs. For the final weekend (14th-16th) LA fitness will be opening its doors for non-members to come and join in the fundraising efforts.
All those taking part will be invited to donate £3.35 to cover at least 1km on any gym equipment – from treadmills to steppers or even a South Pole themed studio class the company has created. The proceeds will go to the charity which raises funds to support our wounded, injured and sick as they make the difficult transition from military to civilian employment.
Prince Harry, Patron of ‘Walking With The Wounded’ says: “The vision behind ‘Walking With The Wounded’ – to reintegrate wounded servicemen and women successfully back into civilian life – recognises the unquenchable spirit and drive of these young people. It aims to harness their determination and energy, whilst adjusting their mind-set to face the numerous challenges that lie ahead. I urge everyone to support them”.

A presentation by Clatterhouse Theatre. Directed by Will Seaward. Written by: Anthony Neilson
“Shatteringly original, infuriating, rebelliously playful, and as intelligently experimental as any drama you’ll see” – Time Out
Lisa is a troubled young lady; troubled by her life and its imbalance at the hands of her watch – always behind by one hour. When a mysterious gentleman arrives at her door, he brings news from the watch specialist Lisa entrusted with her broken “time piece” and reveals that the watch is in fact intact and that “somewhere in all the temporal confusion” it is Lisa who has lost an hour from her life. He informs her that her only hope of retrieving the hour and restoring balance to her life is to travel to a fantastical land called “Dissocia” where she is sure to find it. But all is not as it seems and as Lisa descends to Dissocia, she encounters some of the strangest individuals in the land, who though they may send her in the direction of her lost hour, do not necessarily want her to find it.
Not seen on a London stage for nearly ten years CLATTERHOUSE invites you to join them and Lisa as they descend to Dissocia in this strange and macabre revival of Anthony Neilson’s Dorothy meets Alice style classic. Crammed with dark humour, a witty satire and musical set pieces, this is a theatrical spectacle not to be missed – especially in the intimate setting of The Red Hedgehog Theatre. We all lose time through our day but what would you do if you lost it for good?!
“If you like Alice in Wonderland but there’s not enough sex and violence in it, then Dissocia is the show for you” – ANTHONY NEILSON
A pioneering voice in contemporary British theatre, Anthony Neilson writes and directs plays that are full of wit, charm, compassion and boldly delves into unchartered realms of thinking and the unthinkable. First performed at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow and opened at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh as part of the 2004 Edinburgh International Festival, THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISSOCIA amazed audiences and critics alike. The play stormed the Critic’s Awards for Theatre in Scotland, taking home five awards including Best Director, Best Production and Best New Play. Three years later, the play was revived by the National Theatre of Scotland and embarked on a UK tour, which included a three week season at the Royal Court as part of Artistic Director Dominic Cooke’s inaugural season. And now in 2013, as Anthony Neilson’s latest play Narrative marks the farewell production in Cooke’s final season at the Royal Court, CLATTERHOUSE Theatre are thrilled to be celebrating this remarkable playwright and bringing his modern classic to a new audience
