Italian memorial sculpture of the 19th and early 20th centuries is among the most remarkable ever made, and yet remains surprisingly unknown to an English audience. Monuments by renowned contemporary artists developed from relatively conventional Neoclassicism to hyper-realistic sculptures charged with eroticism. A talk not to be missed especially if you are thinking of visiting some of the great Italian cemeteries.
Bob Freidus has been researching cemetery sculpture for almost 25 years. He was general editor of Italian Memorial Sculpture 1820-1940: A Legacy of Love published in 2004. This normally sells at £40 but copies will be available at £30 if you reserve them in advance.
Doors open at 7pm, and wine and nibbles will be served. The talk starts promptly at 7.30pm and will last about an hour.
Tickets are non-refundable but, as a courtesy to others, please let us know if you cannot attend.

Zoe Francis
with Robin Aspland (pno), Colin Oxley (gtr) & Andy Cleyndert (d.bs)
‘She’s honest and she swings’ according to New York bassist Neil Miner and has a ‘stunning beautiful voice’ in the view of other major US players. In London Zoe’s making a real impression at venues such as the 606, The Boisdale, The Pheasantry and the West End. For a young singer, her knowledge of the American Songbook is astonishing and we can honestly say that we have never heard such an enthralling programme. If you love great songs sung by a brilliant new artist, with an A-team band, don’t miss this one.
