Every Thursday the Friends of Waterlow Park (FOWP) in Highgate organise a volunteer session to restore and maintain places in the park that fall outside of the Camden maintenance contract. Amongst them are Sensory Border, the Lauderdale Terraces, the floral sundial, and the rose border. Everyone is welcome to take part. You don’t need gardening experience, tools or even gloves as these are all provided. We meet every Thursday at 10am at the Lauderdale Cafe and finish at about 1pm. It’s a great way of keeping fit and getting some fresh air and exercise while enjoying being around other people. We will finish for the year on the 20th December and reconvene in March. Angela is a solicitor’s clerk. She works with the defence team during criminal trials. The job brings her face to face with people accused of GBH, rape and murder.
In the cells under the Old Bailey, Angela meets her client who is on trial for murder. “I didn’t do it.” He says. “The Bear did it.” He’s obviously lying. Or mad. This is London after all. But when she examines all the evidence, reads all the files, there it is again. The Bear. Someone else saw it. Without quite knowing why, Angela finds herself hunting the Bear. Until she discovers the Bear is hunting her.
A taut, tense and funny show about an everyday murder and a mythic bear.

… Les Liaisons re-imagines Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s 18th century novel ‘The Dangerous Liaisons’ , by fusing the text with innovative physical theatre to a backdrop of Baroque music: a contemporary immersion into an 18th century world of decadence and debauchery.
Directed by Jacek Ludwig Scarso (Senior Lecturer and Artistic Director of award-winning Elastic Theatre), this is an LMU Performing Arts graduation show, performed at Jacksons Lane Theatre.

Well, let the Mad Hatter tell you at his tea party with the help of ‘Horace’, the Paper Puppet. This one-man show is a nonsensical little play which will delight children of all ages, from 2 to 102!
This walk lasts about two and a half hours and involves picking and eating various bits and pieces as we go along with lots of different new foods and drinks to try (made from different wild foods I have previously picked, cooked, fermented, pickled etc), identifying plenty of edible plants and discussion touching on numerous topics including, nutrition, medicine, herbalism, botany, cookery, horticulture and history.
The aim of Forage London is to explore the plants that are all around us and show what can and can’t be picked (not to gather armfuls of plants ripped from our local parks).I hope to encourage everyone to get out of the city more often and to become more aware of the current and historical uses of the amazing plants and trees that share our capital.

Until one day Hue Boy understands what it is to be tall despite his height.
With a vibrant set, original soundscape and visual movement style, the show is set in a beautiful environment under a magical giant parasol that creates a special place to enjoy this unique interactive experience.

After giving a series of workshops in composition for the guitar for some members of London Composers Forum early in 2012, Lauderdale Guitar Society is hosting two concerts this year (the other in September) to showcase new music. As there are a number of composers already in the society there will be representation from both groups. A veritable feast for the ears!

Using the lives of circus artists as inspiration, Upswing asks what happens as you get older if your profession requires super human strength and skills? When ageing gradually takes away the tools of your trade? How does it affect your self-worth and your place in the world?
What Happens In The Winter… is an arresting mix of aerial, theatre and dance and treads a delicate path through the minds and bodies of two women who refuse to stop flying.
In this lecture, Professor Gareth Stedman Jones looks at the last decade and a half of Marx’s life, a period in which he effectively gave up further work on Capital and read up instead on the village community and the early history of man. He was interested in particular in the new work on pre-history which developed from the 1860s onwards connecting this with a notion of primitive communism and an epoch in history before patriarchy and political hierarchy.
Professor Gareth Stedman Jones is Director of the Centre for History and Economics, Cambridge, and a Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge University since 1974. He was Professor of Political Science, History Faculty, Cambridge University from 1997 and in 2010 became Professor of the History of Ideas at Queen Mary, University of London. His publications include An End to Poverty? (2004), a long introduction to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, The Communist Manifesto (2002), and The Cambridge History of Nineteenth-Century Political Thought, co-edited with Gregory Claeys, 2011.
He is currently working on an intellectual biography of Marx commissioned by Penguin and a more general work on political thought between the French Revolution and the Revolutions of 1848.

Milan-born Tommaso Starace pays tribute to his compatriot, the Franco/Italian Michel Petrucciani, who died at the early age of 36 from a rare and painful bone disease, having filled concert halls the world over. Since moving to London to study in 1994, Tommaso has worked with leading musicians such as Billy Cobham and David Liebman, and most top UK players. His quartet has played at Brecon and many of the major European festivals and each member is an A List player on the London scene, with Cottle, particularly, having a reputation the world over. www.tommasostarace.com
